Walk the Country Walk is a community intervention aimed at increasing physical activity among older adults in rural areas, and at increasing social capital and community spirit.
This project began as a class project for a first year graduate student in the Masters of Public Health Program at Oregon State University. The student, Lilly Anderson, is in the Health Promotion/Health Behavior track, and specializes in rural health.
Walk the Country Walk was designed to increase awareness of the importance of physical activity for older adults in rural areas, and to increase physical activity between the different generations living in rural areas. By increasing physical activity among generations we strive to build social interaction and feelings of hope and inclusion. This campaign is about stepping out and getting your exercise, but it’s also about stepping up, and helping those in your community who need help.
